Georgia Payday Lending Laws
In April 2004, Georgia became one of the nineteen states that has abolished payday lending. Violating Georgia’s law that states charging more than 60% interest on loans under $3,000 is a felony. A company called EZ Cash, Inc. has recently been caught charging customers the equivalent of 600% simple interest rates. They were charging $25 per every $100 loaned over a fifteen-day period. They were also trying to hide their practices by charging check-cashing fees, but they were caught, and charged.
